WESOŁY LUD (which means HAPPY PEOPLE in Polish) is the Representative Dance Ensemble of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (PRCUA), the oldest and one of the largest Polish American fraternal organizations. The Ensemble was established in January of 1977 by Micheline Jaminski supported by Martha Kwiatt, then PRCUA National Director of District 8, for the purpose of perpetuating Polish folk culture through dance and song.
The Ensemble received a special award for Youth and Expression from the Ministry of Culture in Poland and in 2007, was awarded the FIRST GOLD MEDAL given to an Ensemble in the USA for perpetuating Polish culture from “Stowarzyszenie Wspólnota Polska" (an organization in Poland dedicated to strengthening the ties between the Poles living abroad and the Motherland promoting Polish culture and the Polish language).
Young adults, ages 14 and up - high school and college students, as well as working adults, volunteer their time and efforts to perpetuate the traditional folk culture of the many regions of Poland. The ensemble performs at Festivals, Banquets, Weddings, and other social events adding the ethnic flavor of its forefathers. WESOŁY LUD is an international youth ambassador of Polish Culture, accepting invitations to perform throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
The mission of the WESOLY LUD Polish Folk Dance Company, Inc. is to perpetuate, educate and validate the importance of the beautiful folk dance and song culture of Poland to present and future generations.
